Seeds - Broccoli Purple Peacock
Considered a modern heirloom as it was recently bred by Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seeds. It is a cross between broccoli and two different types of kale. Produces a small central head followed by side shoots. Leaves resemble that of red russian kale - leaves, head and stems are edible raw or cooked. An absolute stunner in any ornamental or kitchen garden.
It is worth noting that there is still some variation in the mature plant - despite us saving seed from only the deepest purple heads with red russian type leaves. We have found some of our mature plants have rounded leaves, are more green than purple and everywhere in between. This is not due to cross pollination, but we believe the variety is still stabilising. In any case, the plants are winners in our book - delicious, nutritious and beautiful.
